Golden Wrench Ceremony Celebrates 4Waters Project Completion

Golden Wrench Celebration - Taylor Cooper - The Brunswick News

Commissioners and staff of the Brunswick-Glynn Joint Water and Sewer Commission (JWSC) joined local officials and representatives from 4Waters Engineering and TB Landmark Contractors to celebrate the completion of a project to increase sewer capacity for the north end of St. Simons Island. The Lift Station 2032 (LS2032) Regional Force Main Improvements project will alleviate excessive pumping and reliability issues with LS2032 until regional lift station improvements can be completed. 4Waters designed more than 11,000 linear feet of force main, the majority of which was installed by horizontal directional drilling. With the project complete, development restrictions that were in place due to limited sewer capacity can be lifted.

The force main was installed along Frederica Road, a major corridor on St. Simons Island and the only roadway that extends to the north end of the island. Even minimal traffic control efforts on this road can have a substantial impact on the flow of traffic and the local community. The design included detailed maintenance of traffic plans to accommodate both the drill rig and pipe string areas and maintain temporary non-vehicular pathways. Donald Snellgrove of 4Waters provided construction observation and inspection services for what was described as "a perfect project."

Commissioner Don Elliot said the project "will be the hallmark for all future projects that the JWSC does in the next 20 to 30 years.”

Congratulations to the JWSC and everyone involved in making this project a success. Read more here:
